The leaves are short, numerous and linear, similar in shape to pine needles, each tipped with a bristle.

May flowers are unopened, and like pearls. The stems are sticky and slightly hairy.

Flowers white with five petals and ten or so stamens splayed out, each tipped with purple pollen.

The petals are as long, or longer than the sepals. The greenish center has three stigmas.
