Up to 12m tall. The scarlet red autumn leaves were the result of a sultory hot and sunny summer.

The custard yellow berries are neatly tucked in at the end. The stems have gone the same colour as have the leaves.

The 2010 summer was not nearly as sunny and warm as that of 2003, and the leaves are still infused with green chlorophyll which has yet to fully degrade, making them appear deep-purple red.

The pinnate leaves are shiny and have about 9 pairs of leaflets, plus a terminal one. The leaves are closely-set, oblong, with shallow teeth only nearer the concavely pointed tips.

Bark dull rather than shiny.
